Amidst the chaos of my SIL having a baby and selling their home within a week of each other
we found a few seconds to get together and grab a newborn session with the newest member
of our family..... welcome to the world miss LILY!

it took a little while to get this, and may have involved two little girls covered in sidewalk chalk
but it was worth it ; )

I just realized a few things...

1. It's 1130 at night and I'm eating Mexican food that's 4 hours old, eating by myself in the doctors lounge.

2. I delivered 2 babies so far on my birthday. Kinda cool, I guess.

3. I never even saw my husband today

4. I started my bday at work, went home showered, slept, and came back to work to finish up one exciting day.

5. Holy crap. I'm 27. 27?? 27. That sounds so weird.

More than anyone I know. My hubby. If you have chocolate cake and chocolate icecream and chocolate chunks and chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles and brownies....he'd find some other kind of chocolate to put on it. No. Joke. Sooo since we aren't huge valentines day people and we weren't even going to see each other we did it low key. I stopped on my way home from work and bought cookie dough (break apart we aren't fancy)...which when I got home I had to hide inside of a soft pretzel box so he wouldn't see it in the fridge. I had to wake up two hours early and bust out my cake decorating skills to get these bad boys made before work! Lol. I think he was pretty happy about finding warm chocolate chip cookies when he came home...they're all gone already. They were tastey :-)

I'm constantly telling people they need to have their images blown up and put on a canvas and FINALLY! Someone listened! Thank you Vanessa and Angie for trusting me that this was going to be Gorgeous!!! and oh how it is....just look!

This was a quick shot I took while at A's recent newborn session because i was shocked to see it up on the shelf front and center in their family room. I love it! I'm obsessed just a little bit with canvas. I want to take so many of my images and print them but i have a hard time narrowing it down to a range that my uhh...budget can handle. I'd LOVE to plaster my office wall with these puppies. Seriously though next time I say get a canvas...just listen to me already :)

Hence the reason the blog has been somewhat silent. This is me right now and I thought I should record it, cause who wouldn't want to see how crappy they looked like 5 years from now. Frizzy unfixed hair, dark circled eyes, a broke out face, pale, a wardrobe of scrubs and an overall tired face. That's me right now. Worn. I wish it wasn't the case. Sometimes I wish I could say man this sucks, I look like crap and I feel like crap and I hate all of it. But maybe just maybe part of me is a masochist. Because yes..there are parts of my day that I'd like to erase but those are usually the routine monotonous parts. The crazy parts, the delivery parts, the OR parts, the scary parts, the learning parts....oddly enough I like them. Despite the fact that I'm constantly on the verge of passing out, or sleeping while standing, and that I'm obviously neglecting myself at least in the maintenance department (did you see my awful eyebrows?) I'm still enjoying what I'm doing. Missing sleep, free time, and my husband but still enjoying the torture :) I guess thats a small victory huh? happy hump-day.

spent the day at a bridal show with my sissy, wayyy up in fairfield. So many people too many for all of us. I think were all wore out. Lots of cakes to try that were absolutely gorgeous, tons of photography booths which I spent the majority of my time at. I forgot how crazy commercial getting married is. So much money on crap. Buttt....I did have a fantabulous party of a reception and married my bestie....I guess that makes it all worth it. Remember when I promised I was going to get my wedding pics, still a bust on that one. Anyone want to finish them for me? Lol

So it's already Jan 20th? How the heck did that happen? Did u guys know I had a party for new years? Well I did. And if you didn't come you missed out. We had (stress HAD) a beautiful cake for my sissys birthday.....big double deuces!! (did I spell that right?? 22?) anywho....a few bottles in and well there was a collective effort from everyone at my house in destroying the cake....poor tara. But it was yummy. Did I also mention that we missed the ball drop? Entirely. Oh well. It'll happen again :-) Happy belated birthday tar-duh!

Oh yeah it was a TON of fun driving to work this morning in this. :( not cool. You know, northerners might make fun of us but it's a complete mess out when we get 2-4inches of snow. Thank you city of cincy for not having a single street even slightly cleared off. Going up the hill from reading road was aweesssomme. Oh well...safe and sound at work. Oh dear. I sure do like an overloaded Christmas tree!! I know it's excessive but I just can't help myself. I love things that sparkle, things covered in glitter, glass things, Santa things, frosty things, things that shimmer, things that play music....you get it ;-)

I had to share a quick pic of my tree because well frankly I'm pretty dang proud of myself. Why? Because this jazz took me about two weeks to finish in between reading, editing pics, working, driving, sleeping.... an well, it feels good to accomplish at least one task on my to do list.

I guess this should be a what i wanna wear wednesday post :) because if i did a what i wore wednesday then i'd be posting the same dang thing every single time, a raggity pic of me in scrubs blah!

So here's my what i want to wear...

a super super cute little apron from Anthropologie! Love this one and man do i love that store. But, i can't purchase anything there unless its on super duper clearance haha! Maybe some day..... So i usually go there to browse for ideas cause they have the coolest store fronts and set ups. I came across these cute cute aprons yesterday and man did i want to purchase one. Why do you need an apron e? well i dont neeeedd it but it was really cute and all the girls working there were sporting it =) i could totally wear a vintage apron, with jeans and flats and i could craft in it, or *cough* cook in it, or i could clean in it, or i could paint in it, or just wear it around my house if i wanted! what do you care? hahaha you know you want one too!

She's a nerd like me. She loves candy corn and pumpkins. She used to leave our tv on animal planet all day. She's ok with my picky diet. We've shared too many nights talking about ranndddoomm things. She was a maid of honor at my wedding. She ~~was~~ is my roomie, always will be.
More importantly, she's one of the best friends i have and i love her! :)
She knows wayyy too much about me for me to ever de-friend her haha!

Stace you challenged me this week.
Trying to find something good, and something to be thankful for everyday, is hard.
But i tried. and through the exhaustion and frustration here's what i've come up with...

monday...thankful for loud strong baby hearts! :) i've never been crazy about clinic, but seeing the look on people's faces when i find the baby's heart and they can hear their little one....can connect for that brief 5 seconds, and they breathe a sigh of relief... is pretty awesome.

tuesday... thankful for patients with a sense of humor, for upper levels who teach and treat me like a person and not just an intern...
...and for the fact that i went home two hours later than normal, and I was still in a good mood :) i really do love what im doing underneath all the goo.

wednesday...today im thankful for new friends. for working with a group of interns that i like, not everyone is that lucky. our group is great, different personalities but all in this same scary boat together. we've helped each other, we build each other up, we eat lunch with each other so its not so scary when you're eating surrounded by attendings and its kinda awkward.

thursday...today i was actually thankful for clinic, gyn clinic. I felt like i made a difference. I know right how strange does that sound? i made a difference at someones annual exam?? riiiight. but i really did feel that way. I'm sure eventually pap smears will bore me but for now, i dont mind them.
...today im also thankful for lectures days so my feet can rest. oh and rest they need. good for the soul.

friday...today I'm thankful for something a little different. I'm thankful for a bad situation, a heartbreaking situation, which is strangely enough bringing my heart closer to God.

saturday...thankful for the moment when i was doubting my abilities while on call. i'll made a "sarcastic" comment about myself i can't even remember what it was but one of the nurses said.."yeah but the nurses like you so that's all that matters." that was good.
...also for young patients who have no idea what giving birth entails and how emotionally and physically taxing it can be, who look at me with all sincerity when its over and say, "thank you, thank you so much"....also good.

sunday...thankful for my husband. plain and simple. who takes care of me, who worries about driving home after 27 hours of work, who surprises me with knights of columbus donuts from the fair (so sad that i missed the fair, i really thought about it all night on call, boo.) and who acts as my alarm clock and lets me sleep another hour after he tries to wake me up. yup, i'll keep him.

maybe we'll do a repeat next week. ill try. i will. trying to look at life with "non intern eyes"

something to think about. watching a tv show right now and heard the main person say....
"maybe im allowed to be this happy." what does that mean? its something to think about. do i feel that way sometimes? do you?

After typing this post i thought....no pictures huh? i can't let that happen.

something to be thankful for.

there's no other elegant way for me to say that. there are things that i want. simple things. complicated things. things i wish other people could give me.

does that make me a whiner? really? does it? cause thats kinda what i feel like. a run down, needy, whiner. whatever. it happens.

is this a normal post from me? do i always sound like this? maybe its the lack of sleep. maybe its the french toast, diet coke, and mint flavored gum for breakfast. maybe its the charlie horse in my right calf that awoke me from a post call sleep yesterday that seems to be lingering still. i hate that.

maybe i'll just trudge ahead and ramble off my list. my list of things that I want.

1. sleep-i can't even begin to explain how much this has become a necessity in my life. i dont get enough of it during the week, its just not possible. when i do get enough its a painful sleep. seriously. i sleep so hard and for so long that my body hurts, feels like i've been in a car accident when i wake up. so do i get up early? do i make a decision to be a grumpy cranky version of myself or do i deal with the pain? my vote will always be for more sleep.

2. a foot massage-this may or may not be directed toward a very stubborn hubby who refuses to rub my feet. even after i clean them? ridiculous. {guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt...} i'm trying my very best, to no avail because im sure it will not work. i can not begin to explain/complain enough about how much my feet hurt. maybe its my shoes? maybe. maybe i should buy another pair of danskos? yes i think thats probably it :) it has nothing to do with being on my feet for 28ish straight hours. what? are you joking? no. as a matter of fact, in all seriousness, i'm not joking. they hurt. to say my dogs are barkin' would be an understatement. new shoes, yes thats probably the answer.

3. my wedding album-its the never ending quest isnt it? i say its going to happen and it just never does. i've never had so many people ask me if im married, as i have had in the past month. new people, new friends, more people's shocked faces when i respond to "how long have you been married?" with...."four years" The faces look at me like i'm straight up lying. seriously people i really have been married for four years, i married my best friend {who refuses to rub my feet} and we've been together for 11 years. i know its probably more than you can fathom but really, 11 years. I'm shocked he still likes me. after all, i'm pretty annoying. and apparently needy. but back to the pictures. Its like a splinter stuck in an odd place on my body. i forget it about it for awhile, and then bam! all of a sudden it hits me...I want it out! it hurts, its irritating, but more than anything i wanna see what the big deal is....about the splinter i mean. Can't someone just fix that blasted album for me? i've done the majority of the work, but damn if im not a semi/quasi/type a perfectionist when it comes to my pictures. even more importantly, (such awful grammar) i think i'll be dissapointed by them. my taste in pictures has definitely changed over the past four years and i have a more, much more, critical eye. ugh. i'll never have a wedding album will i?

4. ~~clothes that fit~~. ~~Too lose 10-15 pounds~~. To lose enough weight to fit in the clothes i have- for now. At this point, and who knows how it will change over the next few months, i have no time for exercise. I know excuses, excuses, thats what fat people give. excuses. Well so be it. Please make reference to #1. If i'm not working, im showering, and after showering im sleeping. I make a conscious effort just to stay awake while driving home, there's not a chance in hell im staying awake long enough to go exercise in the heat, or indoors. If you've ever worked a night shift, or really long hours then you know what im talking about. more excuses i know. if i could just feel comfortable in something other than scrubs and pajamas that'd be great.

5. A day without plans-does this even exist? when im not working i'm post call which means that day already has plans.....shower sleep eat dinner...go back to bed. So now, on to sunday. today. Today all i wanted to do was nothing. or whatever I wanted, if it was something at all. but after a breakfast made by my wonderful hubby, and a movie--julie and julia--and working on this post for about an hour, i remembered that i have to take another quiz. i used to love sundays. now they are being squashed by these stupid quizzes. note to self: finish your quiz by saturday, thats the new rule so i can have sunday back. i also just remembered that i have to be at a picnic for work. ~~oh joy~~. i mean...should be fun.

6. time to take pictures-i have plans. they are going to happen. plans to take beautiful pictures of my college roomie and her cute baby bump. it going to happen, whether she wants it to or not :) luckily i have her sister on my side. and it'll be a chance for me to see a very good friend, who i miss very much, and who lives literally less than a minute and 30 seconds from my house. i've timed it.

7. vacation-i want to go somewhere. away from what i do everyday. somewhere with my hubby, somewhere cool. maybe boston? maybe to cali? who knows i doubt i'll have time to plan it. boo. I hate to waste a perfectly good week of vacation that will be approaching hopefully soon...may the month of august fly by! Lord i can only imagine the scary mess that i will be without a week to myself from late september all the way to april. Winter could be bad very bad.

now that i'm semi relieved of my whining, i think its time to wrap this mess up. i do feel better so thank you for that. I didnt even complain directly about work which is surprising because i had one hell. of. a. night. My first shoulder dystocia, and a post partum hemorrhage all in one night, and am rounding on 24 people in 2 hours. that probably means nothing to you all but i include it in here merely for record keeping. I'll look back three years from now, come across this, read it and think...well all be damn. you survived then so suck it up kid. I love talking to the "past me" lol. Does that make me crazy? so be it.
By the way, If you see my husband {the one who selfishly wont rub my feet} please do give him a hug, or a beer. because God bless him he has to listen to me whine wayyy more than y'all do. He takes the heat every day when i come home from work, ~~talks~~ listens to me off the ledge if you will.

I almost forgot i wanted to come and tell you guys about my dreams that i had the other day, you guessed it one was about my teeth.....coming out like confetti....guess we're back where we started.

After a mighty long weekend of being on call and being completely exhausted...and nearly defeated...nearly :) I've had a great day today. Not sure why I feel that way because nothing in particular happened to make it that way. I did deliver 4 babies today, all of which were cutie pies. I also circumcised two little wee wees hahaha. I learned a lot today too, surgically speaking. I just felt a little more confident today i guess, which was definitely NOT the case over the weekend. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, today was good. And I'll take good. I even got a compliment from an attending on my suturing skills which caught me off guard. Maybe he felt sorry for me because I'm the intern, but that's ok....I take that too :) I've heard the service i'm on right now is the most exhausting so the fact that i am surviving and not in tears [yet] is promising. On that note...I've had multiple nurses tell me they can make my four years an awesome experience or absolutely awful. What is that? What am I supposed to do with that information? Today i even asked the one that mentioned it if I was making a bad impression because I've heard it so much already....she said NO NO absolutely not. Just warning ya. Still...a little disturbing. Oh well...at least the nurses in triage felt comfortable enough with me to give me a "warning" to pass on to my fellow interns. Here's hoping that I don't get on any of their bad sides :)

Still waiting to see Eclipse....I know a certain hubby who is also waiting with bated breath to see it too! Must find time to go to the movies asap. Someone please tell me i'm not just building it up in head for a let down.

day one

Because i dont have time to call all of you and tell you how my first day of a real doctor went i'll just put it all here. I was actually able to sleep last night which was awesome because not all my fellow interns did. I don't know why but i wasnt really nervous. I think im kinda over that whole "nervous because you're afraid to fail" thing.....because honestly, it's inevitable. I can't know everything. I'm not google. [man wouldnt that be awesome if you were google? imagine all the knowledge you'd hold] but, man i've got a ton of reading to do.

So day 1 started at 3:30am....then 3:40...and finally up outta bed at 4:00am :) Its really not all that bad. I mean it does suck to be up that early but it wasnt awful, especially since i went to bed at 9pm...while my neighbors were mowing their lawn. Ps...if you text me after nine I'm not gonna answer. It's not that I dont like you....i just NEED sleep.

The day was split up nicely today with rounding/lectures/a surgery and finally check out. And...suprisingly the worst part of my day?? sitting in the traffic on 75 south as I was heading home. I think that's saying a lot. I was really really really worried when i interviewed here because i didnt think i'd "mesh well" [thank you for all those that appreciate the clueless reference] but I think the residents are all awesome and i heart all my chiefs they're great so far. Even though I felt COMPLETELY stupid at multiple points throughout the day, at least people really treat you like a doctor, like you matter. That could be a bad thing in a few ~~weeks~~ days when I'm ready to toss my pager(s) and phone in the trash! Bonus points for the fact that I got to eat breakfast and lunch and didnt feel like my bladder was gonna burst even once.

I'd love to stay and chat but I got a yummy dinner of grilled cheese and tater tots waiting for me and an amazing hubby that deserves a little attention :)

Back from vaca and wayyy behind on sharing from my recent sessions. So here's our first sneaker and there will be more soon. These guys are by far one of my favorite clients! So creative and totally up for anything which i dig ;-) and not to mention they have some cutie patootie kids that crack me up!

i love it! he has quite the spirit in him, an explorer for sure! i thought maybe this was his "i'm over you lady" look but i think his mama and i decided he was eating a pebble hahaha!

I loved that miss S remembered me from our last session. She's seems so shy at first but i just love when she warms up to you and lets out those crazy infectious laughs. And her piggy tails this time? I mean come on....to. die. for :)

We were so worried about awkwardness and that weird "what are we supposed to do" feeling that people get during photoshoots but....i think we remedied that little bug ;) what do you think?

As you will see I only have one picture from here. It was Hot as bananas out, it was late in the day, we were tired, 2 hours behind schedule, and "whiskied out" By this time we were all over it, and sure as heck fire, tired of learning about how bourbon is made. I just wanted to buy my bourbon whiskey for the hubs and get the heck home. Over and out whiskey drinkers....

we made plans to go to a winery next week ;-)

Doctor's Ball

Night one: Let me set the scene. It's a monday night at 7pm. Were dressed up all fancy like, headed to the Seelbach Hotel for our "Doctors Ball." This loosely translates to...we got semi dressed up, for half our class to show up, a ~~tastey~~ mediocre ~~dinner~~ buffet that probably cost 50$ a person, a two drink limit, and a dj that insisted on playing craptastic music for a good hour.

Did we let that any of that spoil our fun? Oh heck no! I absolutely LoVe when the "alter egos" come out during a party. Time to let loose, take off your dork guard, flip your hair, and leave your cardigans at home....it's party time!

We flipped the switch on that dj after dinner was over, requesting more dance friendly tunes in the style of black eyed peas, miley cyrus, usher, petey pablo (a personal fave), lady gaga, beyonce, and lmfao....just a few of my close friends. You know me, I can't turn down a good beat. I was on the dance floor just about all night. My feet were in the most awful pain by the end of the night but that's what its all about right? a good lookin bum thanks to shoes that make you wanna chop off your feet all together?! :) Check out those linebacker calves, blech.

Is that a fist pump i'm throwing up there?? bahahhaha....this is either to the "shots shots shots" song or "party in the usa" oh yea, not lying. This is actually the only full length shot of my dress thats moderately acceptable, i say that because well....its a shot of my bum bum which im not too happy about! It's hard to get pictures of yourself when no one can work your camera. Maybe i see the purchase of a cheap point and shoot in my future.

There's a handful of blurry, out of focus, pictures that look like we were at some sort of rave! haha! But after a few tries, a few drinks, and maybe a mini photog tutoring session, we finally got a picture of me and the hubs that wasn't completely blurry. Doesnt happen very often so enjoy it while you can.

I was so so so excited to finally see great friends that I have missed for MONTHS! Fourth year is amazing, lots of time to do the stuff you want and get reconnected with family and friends but its kind of awful at the same time. It prepares you slowly for the day when we all head our separate ways for residency. I feel like i've seen a smattering of people here and there throughout the year but i've missed so many more. Reese glad you were able to make it up for the doctors ball, its way past time for you to party with the 'ville crew :)

Did i mention there was a photobooth? A free photobooth? Best. Idea. Ever. I'd say we had more than enough fun in that thing for everyone there! At least i did! ahhh geeez. If i had a scanner i'd show you all the ~~amazing~~ ridiculous pictures that we took. I highly recommend the photobooth for anyone having a get together....more fun than you can shake a stick at!

It really ended up being a great night with great friends.

How did i ever survive without immediate and constant access to the internet?! I mean, i used to sit and listen to that dial tone, weird fax machine noises, and finally that awesome "welcome...you've got mail!" ahhh the days of dial up and aol. But, i digress....I'm back!!! Finally after over a month of no internet, or stealing internet from my mama's house, i'm back :)

I have so much to blog about its ridiculous! I feel so behind. Lots has happened since we moved out of our house in the 'ville and to our temporary home back in walton. So I'm gonna try to catch you all up over the next few weeks, even while I'm sitting on the beach with my toes in the sand, and hopefully before i start my new job in just 2 weeks!!! AAAhhhhh so terrified.

Starting off in May....the first glorious saturday in may we celebrated The Kentucky Derby 136! Calvin Borel took home the roses riding Super Saver. We went to a great friend's house and enjoyed the wet/rainy derby in front of a tv stuffing our faces. I even flexed my awesome baking skills and made semi-homemade sugar cookies in the shape of horsies. It was such a great time and i loved spending my last week in the ville together with friends i'm gonna miss sooooo much! Time for the pics...say hi luc!

A party just isn't complete without brad showing up a good 2 hours late, and actin' a fool ;)

I'm not sure if it was the food, the company, or the sangria but some how clint's clothes started coming off and he ended up on the floor??! Whooo knoowss...

And this...would be just the beginning of a story that involves an elementary school version of lucy i think losing her dress on the playground mid-run?! I could be wrong, i missed the details laughing so hard at clint's reaction.

oh i just love all these people, i can't even tell you how much i'll miss our time together
